Our generation British pop artist launched his new show on Wednesday 5th May, and I was lucky enough to go along to this and the collectors preview the week before.
Currently my favourite artist, with 11 new pieces of work on a more personal and political slant. The canvases still shouted pop with the familiar typography, intertwined song lyrics and the dazzling glitter! You have to see the work in person to understand the large scale and impact, with studding the brush stroke closely where you might have thought it was a printed image.
Speaking to Stuart on the painting, Pictures Came And Broke Your Heart, and why he used Cyril Sneer from the 1980 cartoon The Raccoons (one of my favourite shows). Was to sum up a occurring message he places to the art world, expense, opulence and money grabbing crudeness of it all! This picture also depicts two females kissing due to Stuarts surprise of history of art not reflecting this type of imagery.
